Sydney, Australia - Monday 29th December 2008

Joe and I left the kids sleeping and walked the route to where we will watch the fireworks on New Year's Eve. Cvery restricted. Checked out the parking as well as it will be severely restricted. Had to wake the kids when we returned as they were still sleeping. I think the teenage disease has hit them. After lunch we took the last easy trip to Darling Harbour as we move up to Stef's on the 30th. Walked over the Pyremont Bridge to the Powerhouse Museum. It is located in a converted powerhouse (surprise!) and has something for all ages. They are having a Star Wars exhibit but none of us were interested. We checked out the student fashion design winners and an exhibit called "A Woman's Work is Never Done" which had a turn of the century kitchen and appliances and then displays moving up through the ages. I was fascinated by that as I am always interested in other people's lives, especially the 19th century. There was also a fashion and accessories exhibit that went back to the mid 1800's. We had flat whites and cakes (not me!) in the cafe then caught the monorail to Darling Harbour. There was something wrong with the ferries because, as in England, after waiting an hour two came along at once! We are packing tonight so I started to take the ornaments off the twig tree. One of the twigs came off in my hand. Then I realized it was moving and screamed and threw it to the ground. It was a stick insect that had made itself at home. Alex took Yazzie for a walk and came back all excited cause he had just seen a spider as big as his hand. Grace went with him and they got this picture of it. It is a St Andrew's Cross spider and it is relatively harmless. Stef brought Rob's car over for us so Joe and the kids can get to Avalon tomorrow with all our stuff. I will stay behind to clean and get the apartment ready for Jo and Karl's return.
